Game three of week 9 was a captainless matchup between Woke and Swole and Hot Goyle, with both Chas and Roberts being out of action for their respective squads. Which team would rally without their fearless leaders? Goyle was also missing another key player in Jake Goldenstein, who is averaging almost 19 points per game.

Starting off the action, Ian Marlier hit a rare three for Woke and Joel was getting his in the post. The early stages of the game were all Woke and Swole with everyone on the team getting a bucket. After a Danny O’Donnell three, W&S had built a 15-4 lead. Perry Hull, who is typically Goyle’s sixth man was making the most of his increased role and was active on the offensive glass, getting a putback as well as and and-1 finish at the rim and Goyle was starting to climb back in it. Joel continued to play well for W&S and got his own and-1. At this point Luigi went down with an ankle injury and was forced out. Needing a sub, I hopped in for Goyle and went 1-2 with a three and 4 boards. Thanks to Mazz for covering the score while I was in. Luigi would be back in after a few minutes but W&S had built a solid lead heading in to the half.

Coming out of the half Danny went on the attack for W&S and would hit 2 quick threes and a pretty jumper off the window. Weinstein got a couple of buckets for Goyle but W&S kept the pressure on between Danny nailing jumpshots and Joel getting bucket and bucket in the post. Woke and Swole would maintain a roughly 10 point lead throughout the second half and were struggling to get points, outside of Weinstein. Goyle would make a push toward the end of the game, with Perry Hull getting to the free throw line repeatedly and MJ getting some late buckets, but Woke and Swole would hang out to win 67-60. Goyle takes the 2 seed and will face Skelley and buddies in the first round, Woke and Swole takes the 5 seed and will face X Corp.

Woke and Swole

Joel A – was leaned on to score and came through with what must be a season high (26)

Ian B+ set the tone with a big three and played well defensively

Danny A shot the lights out and dropped 30 plus

TC B great job on the glass and defensively. Could’ve had a few more buckets playing 40 minutes

Goyle

Lou N/A injury

Weinstein B could’ve looked to be more aggressive

Jeffries A bright intensity on both ends, though he shot inefficiently from deep

Hull B+ did a great job getting to the line and rebounding

7:05 SWol VS Slick

This game was supposed to be a blowout, and it started that way as it was 15-2 after a Clarke cutting hoop. The lead grew even further and after a Dany 3 it was 25-7 it was ugly. Tea Slick would keep fighting as EJ made an adjustment and then splashed a 3, and another, Amir liked that so much he nailed a trey it was a more respectable 27-16. SWOL would settle and maintain an 11 pt lead at the break it was 37-26.

Swol would keep getting hoops and the lead climed to 45-31, and this one was lookign over. Dirty Amir showed they neevr quit, as Alan the fill in went off due to some poor D, EJ spalshign 3’s as well as slashing to the rack, Amir would nail a straight ahead 3 to cut the lead to just 55-53!! SWol was able to get to many lay ups,and put this thing away at the line 71-59, great fight by DA though.

  1. Game 2 of Week 6 featured 1-4 Buddy Ball taking on 3-2 Woke and Swole.
    •

  2. Swole has been looking to readjust after losing first round pick Ryan MacPherson for the season, whereas Skelley’s crew has missed key players like Dunton and Kielley for several games. Both teams would be shorthanded coming into this one with Skelley missing Lane, Keilley and Brent and would need to pick up Chas as a sub. Roberts was down Joel in addition to McPherson. Skelley came out in a zone defense and Danny & Roberts were doing. A great job of finding the holes in the zone and getting good looks. On the other end, Dunton was being aggreesive getting to the rim and making good looks.
  3. The game was back and forth until Danny went on a mini run for Swole, cashing 11 straight points and showing off his deep offensive bag, getting to the rim, midrange, free throws and a 3. At this point, Skelley would make the captain’s call and switch out of the zone that was being completely shredded and switch to man, and that ended up being a huge decision. Worth finally stopped the bleeding with a 2 and Skelley would look to get out and run and push the pace. Buddy Ball was moving the ball well and creating turnovers on the defensive end, and with 4:30 left in the half, they had built a 6-point lead. Worth would hit his second 3 of the half and BB would go into the half up 10, 37-27.
  4. Danny came out of the half cashing a 3, but BB would go on a big run, sparked by a Chas midcourt steal into a fast break layup, and the Buddies would score 15 unanswered points. The defensive intensity for Swole dried up at this point and Buddies lead would continue to grow. Worth had a huge second half, hitting 5 threes and Dunton continued to get to the rim at will and play hard, despite showing signs of a nagging injury. The Buddies would throw down 41 points in the second half to Swole’s 19, and they would cruise to a big 78-48 victory. Great showing by Skelley and company to earn the much-needed win and move to 2-4.
  5.
  6. Buddies
    • Dunton A – looked like he was playing through some pain, but balled out regardless.
    • Chas A – Chasito seems to play even faster in the 2nd half of a back-to-back
    • Worth A+ extremely efficient from deep, put the game away with his shooting
    • Skelley A Skelley is in the running for MIP. Did a great job on the glass and running the floor
  7. Swole
    • Roberts B+ Was doing a great job beating the zone initially, but slowed down as the game went on
    • Clarke C great rebounding numbers but his team needed more points
    • Danny B was dynamic in the first half, but also faded late
    • Marlier C got some boards, but needs to convert open looks.
