Well... even though Derrick showed up at 6pm for a 9pm game out of excitement and love for the game, Conway falls to the FOUR MAN Chupacabres 63-59. I was so sure this was going to be the night for Conway... but I found myself congratulating the shorthanded Chupacabres instead. They were led by superstar JP Barrett who dropped 30 pts and 15 rebs to lead the way for his team. He couldn't be stopped and the addition of 16 Jack Spillane points and some clutch free throw shooting got the job done. For Conway, it was refreshing to hear that every team makes the playoffs (I think?) - so maybe they are saving their best for then.....

Conway took on the Tomahawks in a game that I was really hoping would be close. Both teams were heavily shorthanded with Conway having 1 sub and the Tomahawks having no subs. I thought maybe Conway could surprise us today, and they hung in the game for awhile, bu eventually, the Tomahawks were too much to handle. They hit back-to-back threes just as Conway cut the lead to 9, and from that point on, it really opened up. Great play all around from the Tomahawks was too much for Conway to handle and the final score was 57-37.

When Nana came up to me before the game and asked "are you ready for some fireworks"? I knew he was kidding, but part of me thought... wow maybe Conway will actually win tonight! Not even close. 65-48 final score and the same issues persisted for Conway... no rebounds and too many turnovers. Despite this, they play extremely hard every night, but just refuse to ackowledge these mistakes. It was a tale of two halves for Himmy Turner. First half was all about Gabe, who had the first halftime check of the stat sheet of the season. And the second half was all about Matt P - who drained 6 second half threes and was shooting onconscious from beyond the arc. The game was never really close, there were moments when Conway had cut it to 8 and had some belief, but the hot shooting from Matt put an ice on any chances of a miraculous comeback. As always, it was a blast to watch Conway though, they always engage with me during the games and it makes it very entertaining. I simply have to see them win a game this season

First of all, credit to TYU for showing up and getting the job done even though they were missing some players. They were aggressive on the boards and get everyone involved in the scoring. Very solid defensively too and totally deserved the win last night. Now, moving on to Conway.... This team is so fun and so frustrating to watch at the same time. Missing arguably their best player, I was going to give them a pass for getting destroyed... but they don't get the pass. For some reason they came out in a 2-3 zone.. or was it a 3-2 zone? Either way, TYU just kept firing wide open threes, which they were knocking down. And when they didn't knock it down, they would simply grab the offensive rebound and try again like it was nothing. Conway continues to turn the ball over for fun and refuses to rebound. They stuck around after the game for about an hour in a heated (seemingly productive) debate about their defensive issues. They asked KD and myself for advice lol. For one, they need Dahla to shoot more, and they need to either fix their zone or go back to man. And of course, stop turning the ball over!! They have lost some really close games due to turnovers. Excited to see them back in action next week.
