Kicking off week 7 was a matchup between 4-2 Shooter McGavins and 2-4 Overhated. Chas was missing Etheridge and Skelley had his whole team available. I had picked Shooters to win in this one not knowing Eth was out and missing his 14 points per game would be a challenge for SM to overcome.
Starting things off both teams were moving the ball around and getting to the free throw lines. Shebertes had a nice bucket inside with a foul and Hammond had another and-1 finish for SM. Worth had a tough and-1 for OH but Shebertes answered that with back to back three pointers. OH followed this up with a 9-0 run but Hammond responded with back to back threes and Scotty was having a great half on both ends. Both teams were unable to build a solid lead in the first half. Chas cashed out two threes and seemed poised to go into the half up 3 but Skelley hit a miracle buzzer beater to tie the game as time expired in the half. Skelley led all scorers with 13 first half points.
Coming out of the half Shebertes had some nice tough buckets in the posts and Worth had another and-1. Danner had a nice jumper and Chas was on fire from deep. Kielley and Frano, who both had quiet first halves came alive late in the 2nd half to spark Overhated. Frano had some nice mid range jumpers and Kielley was getting to the basket and free throw line. Late threes from Chas and Shebertes kept things close. With two minutes left, Overhated was up three and SM had to foul. Keilley was clutch at the free throw line and built up a solid lead. Despite another late Chas 3, Overhated hung on to secure a much needed win heading into the stretch run.

Game 2 of week 4 was EJ’s Easy Cummins (2-1) taking on Chas’ Shooter McGavins (1-2). EC started off the season scotching hot, with a dynamic scoring duo of Civale and Cummins, but have had question marks on the defensive end. SM has relied on their defense for success early on, allowing the second fewest points per game. EC was to be without Jamie Cummins, who has been their best two way player. SM was missing Danner.
Shebertes got things started for SM, beating his defender off the dribble for a layup. This part of his game was noticeably absent in the first few weeks, as he was looking to shoot often. Eth and Shebertes were getting buckets inside for SM but Civale had answers on the other end, knocking down fade away jumpers and getting second chance points off of offensive rebounds. The battle of the big men continued for the first half and SM went into the half up 36-32. Civale led all scorers with 20 first half points, Shebertes had 14 and Etheridge and Eisenberg chipped in 10 respectively.
Coming into the second half, Eth got a coupled buckets in the paint and Shebertes went on a heater and hit four threes in a row, including a heat check from nearly half court. In a matter of minutes SM had a 20 point lead. This is the type of performance we were all expecting when Chas took Shebertes 2nd overall. As Chas notified anyone who would listen “he’s back” and that the league is on notice, SM never looked back and built the lead as high as 30. Really impressive win for SM, as Chas vision for his team came to life. EC will look to get back on track, they were really missing Cummins defense in this one.
