The first semifinals match up was the game I was most excited for on the night. It all depended on if Terminator 2 could play a complete game. Commando is a team you don’t want to hang around. Before the game started Timothy Kostolansky asked me who I thought was going to win the whole thing and I said, “the team that you’re playing” and he confidently had an answer of I’ll talk to you after the game at 8 o clock.” You could see the confidence he had right from the tip. He scored 11 of Terminator 2’s first 14 points. They were up 14-4. This was huge for Terminator 2 as Commando is team that doesn’t allow a lot of points. Terminator 2 would continue to be up 10 for the next 6 minutes, 22-12. Tim and Julian Manyika were the two running the show on the scoring front combining for all the teams 22 points. Commando was able to end the half on a positive side though as Max Heinrich started to get going to help shrink the lead by just 5. Commando was down 28-23 going into the second. Even though it seemed like Terminator 2 was dominating the whole half the score didn’t show for it.
I knew that the second half was going to be some of the best basketball of the season and that’s exactly what it was. Max got fouled hard early on after a hard foul from T2 and after that he used his rage to go on a tear. He doubled his points in the first 6 minutes of the second half and managed to get his team the lead, 33-31. There was a lot of fouls being made on both sides as both teams were playing very physical trying to get the victory. I was saying here we go again Commando is going to find a way to win this game like they always do but T2 had something to say about it as they managed to steal the lead 57-51 with 3 minutes to go and that is due to Dayvon Russell taking it to the basket getting and 1s and free throw chances. He went 10-11 from there the whole game. T2 made some poor choice down the stretch though. They turned the ball over and took quick shots instead of burning clock. Nick Leonard had one of the biggest plays of the night as they were down 1 with under a minute to go, he stole the ball and got an and 1! Deyvon was able to tie the game back up and Commando missed their shot to win the game, so overtime was needed to decide the winner of the game. 63-63
The overtime period was nerve racking and it seemed like the nerves got to Commando or they were just gassed from the game. Tim was trying to be a man of his word as he hit a three in OT to make it a two-possession game. Commando was missing their shots and came up short. Their dominant season would come to and end. I was shocked as the close games are the ones they win and those are the ones T2 usually loses. But not this game.
T2 finds their way into the championship game which was scheduled to be played at 8 o clock, so they had a game off to rest up and get back at it. Commando fought hard all season and never took a play off. They should hold their heads up high on the winter session!

The playoff opener was one of the games I had circled on the playoff schedule because I though it was going to be the best game of round 1 and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Terminator 2 was looking to pull off an upset as they came out firing in the first 6 minutes going on a 10-0 run to start the game. Brendt Stephens hit a three, Samuel Jensen had some transition baskets, and Timothy Kostolansky was doing his usual scoring consistently in the paint. The MVP of the league, Jack Fay for Clever Trevors, showed up right as the game was starting so he checked in a little later in the first half. He would go on to score 8 straight points for CT. Jack wasn’t getting too much help from his teammates on the scoring front. As the first basket that was scored by a different player on CT with 4:20 to go in the half. T2 would go on to finish out the first half with a ten point lead. The score was 30-20. Tim, Brendt, and Samuel all had 8+ points. As for CT Jack had 15 and Tony Caletti, 5, was the only other player with points for CT. The start for T2 couldn’t have been better as they just needed to hold on in the second and they move on.

The first 9 minutes CT was able to shrink the lead to 7. This was the closest CT had been to T2 this game. Brendt was the one that had the green light on the other side of the court where he hit two threes nothing but net. T2 was able to get the lead back up to 14 with about 7 minutes to go. 63-49. At this point T2 should start wasting clock and get open looks and stops. But they couldn’t stop Jack no matter who was covering him. He was hitting shots double teamed. He would go 8 for 10 from three on the night. T2 was slipping a little but CT didn’t have enough time on their hands. They brought it within 6 with just 30 seconds to go. Jack hit a three at the buzzer to lose by 3. CT’s winter session comes to an end in the first round. T2 wins 75-72.

As for CT it was a heartbreaking way to end the session, but if they comeback for the spring session they will have a good chance of redemption.
