The championship game in the corporate league was very anticipated, as we had two underdogs make it to the chip. The 5 seed Wolf & Co and the 7 seed Donuts, no Dunkin. DND got their nerves out of the way and took a 5-0 lead right off rip. Tony Calderone would also hit a 3 shortly after. Then Wolf & Co woke up after Austen Moye and Griffin Walker both had mean blocks, which gave their team some energy. Then Clay Moseman tied the game 10-10 with a nice jump shot around the 7:30 mark.  The game was physical as both teams were playing tight and physical defense. Tony and Anthony Neff were getting to the line a lot. There wouldn’t be too much scoring for the rest of the half, and DND would head into half time with a 1-point lead, 17-16. Tony led all scorers with 10!
I didn’t know what to expect in the second half, but I had my popcorn ready! Griffin hit a contested 3-point shot to start the half and get his team their first lead of the game. I thought that this was where W&C would go on a run, but nope! DND’s magical run continues as Anthony gets an and 1 to take the lead right back! It was 24-19 with 15 minutes to go. Pat Heffernan, who had a quiet first half, had an impressive lay up and that got him going! He would hit two 3’s right after and took the lead 29-27. David Nguyen would tie right after, and then DND would go on a run! It was a 13-3 run to end the game and completed one of the best Cinderella runs I have ever seen! 40-32 will be the final, and DND are the champions! They should be extremely happy with what they accomplished!

The last game of the semis was a mismatch on paper for Kvyo but they were riding high off the energy from the week prior so anything was possible.  There was not one point scored in the first 7 minutes of the game. Mary Chambers was the one who broke the ice with a 3 pt shot. It was contagious as her teammate Clay Moseman hit a 3 of his own right after. It was 12-6 around the 5 min mark and Wolf & co had 4 three point shots. Kvyo would only score two more points for the rest of the half. It was 16-8. The lowest scoring half of the season. Only two players had points for Kvyo! And if they wanted to win the game they had to be better in the second.

Griffin Walker wasted no time and hit a 3 pt shot right at the start of the half and that just created more scoring for his team. Clay hit his second 3 of the game. Remy Dumont only had 5 points in the first half and he was doing more in the second but it wasn’t enough. He needed his teammates to cover the scoring and unfortunately no one stepped up! W&C were walking a way with the win and it was a great team win. 40-27 and they go on to face DND for the championship!!

The second game was what I thought was going to be the closest game on the slate but it didn’t start out that way. Fast PP scored a quick 7 points looking very composed. They started the game on a 12-3 run after a 3 pt shot from Zach Driscoll. He would go on to hit another the next possession. Wolf & co only had Fts until Griffin Walker changed that and hit a shot. That’s what helped build some momentum for W&C. It was 21-9. W&C was slowly chipping away and got to within 7 after a transition basket from Clay Moseman. They would then trade some baskets right before the end of the half was over and the score at the end of half was 28-19.

W&C had some work to do in the second half especially after Zach continued where he left off in the first hitting another 3pt shot. Again W&C wouldn’t score a FG till the 15 minute mark. Pat Heffernan made a great defensive play for W&C which created an easy basket for him. That was the play that slowly started the comeback. Then his teammates started to hit some shots including 3s which helps bridge the gap. It was 35-29 with 3 minutes to go as there wasn’t much scoring happening for Fast PP as they have gone ice cold. Pat ties the game at 35! What a comeback. FPP had a chance to win the game with a 3 at the end but It would miss so we go on to OT.

The OTS go by so fast so really every second matters and Pat a 3 pt shot with not much time left and hit his FTs as well. FPP would only be down 1 with a nother chance to win the game but they would miss again and fall short. Game 2 was another upset! Final 40-39.

Game number 3 was a classic right from the tip as SAUS was coming off their first loss of the season and W&C has played a lot better over the past few weeks. Pat Heffernan would get his squad W&C started out on the right foot with an easy transition lay up. SAUS would have an answer for every shot W&C made early on. It was 10-10 within the first 7 minutes of the game. Griffin Haas and Maroti had 15 points combined for SAUS. The whole half it was back and forth with Pat doing most of the scoring for W&C as he led all first half scorers with 14 points. It was one of the higher scoring first halves we have seen this season as both teams combined for 67 points which is really impressive. Especially with how physical the game was. W&C would be up 36-31 going into the second half.

Saus brought the lead down to two right away in the second half and that was due to Griffin who started out red hot in the second half hitting his first 3 shots. But every time one team scored the other would! This was some of the best basketball I have seen since scoring this league. Clay Moseman who was a massive player in the second half hitting two 3s for his squad. I didn’t write the time left down but it was 54-53 then Mary Chambers would hit a 3pt shot to make it 57-53. The threes in the second half were killing SAUS. Austen Moye was having a quite game until he had the biggest play of the game which was an and 1 with 2 minutes left to make it 59-56. SAUS would end up with the ball on the last possession of the game with a chance to tie the game with a 3, but W&C would shut the 3pt line down and leave the paint open and SAUS scored a layup as time would expire falling short 61-60. GAME OF THE YEAR!!!
